WAVE PATTERNS 2

I decided that cutting the carvings background away let's the design really pop. I have some footage of waves from a square dish that will better suit the rectangular wood blocks.

Also tried a new pattern transfer method. Print the inverse design, place page face down on wood. Apply some acetone and rub it in. It transfers the toner directly onto the wood.

WAVE PATTERNS 1

I will be hand carving 40 unique interference wave patterns onto hand planed walnut wood. These wall hangings will depict the waves I observed on the ceiling, made by sunlight reflecting off of the water in a frying pan that had been left to soak. The movement of the water connected through the vibrations of my movements in the kitchen created a torrent of mesmerizing patterns. It was like looking through a kaleidoscope, fluid and ever-changing. Such an engrossing visual with such intricate detail, so much information packed into this fleeting moment. I passed through the room like I have done countless times before and it could have just slipped away unnoticed. With this project I wish to capture the liminal beauty hidden in these transient moments that catch us off-guard.

Below you can see a still of a reflected wave pattern and a carving in the works.
